2 strength assistants leaving Pitt football to join Dave Andrews at Iowa State
Two strength assistants are leaving Pitt’s football program to re-join former head strength and conditioning coach Dave Andrews at Iowa State.
Freddie Walker and Trever Ryen have been named assistant strength and conditioning coaches for the Cyclones, an Iowa State spokesman said Friday.
Walker was at Pitt for the past five seasons, joining coach Pat Narduzzi’s original strength staff in 2015.
Previously, Walker was on the strength staff at Illinois from 2012-14 and was a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 2010 and ‘11.
Ryen spent only the past season at Pitt and is returning to Iowa State where he played football and ran track. A walk-on to the football team, he ended up as an honorable mention All-Big 12 return man. He also earned all-conference honors as a member of two relay teams.
He has been a strength and conditioning intern at Bowling Green and with the Iowa State football and men’s basketball programs.
