Two transfers, three freshman round out Penn State women's basketball recruiting class

Two transfers and three freshmen headline the 2020 Penn State women’s basketball recruiting class, which was announced Monday by the university.

None of the additional recruits is from Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions signed Maddie Burke (Central Bucks West, Doylestown), Kaci Donovan (Owego, N.Y.), Nan Garcia (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Leilani Kapinus (Fitchburg, Wisc.) in November.

Senior guard Niya Beverly, who played three seasons at Wisconsin, and 6-foot-2 junior forward Britnay Gore, who played two seasons at Cleveland State Community College, were the transfers.

Beverly was a three-year starter who played 90 games for the Badgers. She averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 assists per game in her career. The Laurel, Md., native attend St. John’s College High School.

Gore was a two-time TCCAA All-Conference first team player. She is from Antigua in the Caribbean. She averaged 13.5 points per game in her career.

The other freshmen are guards. Mekenna Boyd is from Williston, Vt., Tova Sabel is from Stockholm, Sweden, and Constance Thomas is from Plant City, Fla.

Boyd helped Champlain Valley Union High School to four state championship games, including two titles.

Sabel averaged 10.8 points per game in guiding her team to the 2020 Swedish Cup Championship.

Thomas scored 1,345 points in 81 games at Camp Jewell Academy.
