U mad, bro?: Even the broadcasters are bashing the Pirates, while Steelers fans are unhappy about Cam Heyward's hold-in
Cameron Heyward and Chris Boswell were holding-in during Pittsburgh Steelers training camp. Mike Tomlin is talking tough about a Steelers’ defense that hasn’t been tough enough for years.
And the Pirates continue to be extremely tough to watch at all.
So in the dog days of August, all you pups are howling up a storm in this week’s “U mad, bro?”
We open up with Ed. He wants to see Mario Lemieux buy the Pirates instead of making another run at reacquiring the Penguins.
“How about Mario buys the Bucs? He likes to win, and I believe he would be inclined to spend the $$$ to build a winning ball club in the burgh again. I know I’m dreaming, but the kid in me that learned to love the Bucco’s listening to Bob Prince tell the game, while fetching a few cold Iron’s & roll a smoke or two for my grandfather while we sat on the back porch would like nothing more than to see Pirates add another Championship to the collection.”
Unfortunately, Ed, I think Mario would have to smoke something a lot stronger than whatever you were rolling for your grandfather before he ever tries to buy the Pirates.
Steve replied to my column about Mike Tomlin’s suggestion that the 2025 Steelers defense might be “historic.”
They are historic. Historically underachieving. How many top paid defenses can claim as many playoff blowouts as Iron Mike and the pay-me for individual accolades trio of Minkah, Heyward, and Watt?

Steve, you aren’t allowed to steal the punchline of the column if you just read the headline. That’s a rule.
It’s a rule I made up. But it’s still a rule.
This person is chiming in on the holdouts of Cameron Heyward and Chris Boswell.
Jaylen Warren needs to hold in now that J Cook got paid.

I’m just waiting for Corliss Waitman and Cameron Johnston to hold out at the same time in hopes that the Steelers will be forced to sign them both.
Then they can run a dueling punter special teams operation. The other team will have no idea what’s coming!
Jeff replied to a post from me on social media about how Greg Brown and Matt Capps wrapped up their television broadcast of the Pirates’ 14-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.
What else can they say?
— Jeff Trowbridge (@JeffTrowbridge7) August 13, 2025
With team broadcasters, I rarely get upset about what they say to defend the team. I get upset when they don’t say anything if criticism is necessary.
At least in this case, Capps and Brown said what needed to be said.
Meanwhile, “Tony From Texas” wants to give some credit to the other team.
The Brewers are really good though.
— Tony From Texas (@Tony_Mach1) August 13, 2025
Yeah. They are. The Harlem Globetrotters are good too. That doesn’t mean the Pirates need to look worse than the Washington Generals all the time, though.
We’ll end with one more thought on that game from John. It sounds like he is done with the Pirates … and he thinks the Pirates have been done with this season for a while now.
Seems like they just threw in the towel on this season.
— John Parker (@friskee73) August 13, 2025
Yeah, they did. And as soon as they threw the towel, Christian Yelich hit it 400 feet for another homer.
