U mad, bro?: Steelers fans enraged, defensive, confused after disheartening tie against Lions
The Pittsburgh Steelers tied the 0-8 Detroit Lions at home in a game that featured 15 total penalties, injuries to star players, three Steelers turnovers and some rotten play calling.
Exactly how else did you think this week’s “U mad, bro?” was going to go?
Take it away, Stiller nation.
Rick is putting a positive spin on the Steelers’ tie — and the close shave victory over the Chicago Bears the previous Monday.
“The Steelers could have lost both home games and instead lost neither! Yes, a very small victory, but not sunk yet.”
Wow. This guy can see the bright side of anything.
“What did you think of the ride on the Titanic, Rick?”
“Well, we never made it to New York, but that midnight swim sure was refreshing.”
“What did you think of the play, Mrs. Lincoln?”
“Well, it wasn’t very good, but at least we didn’t have to stay for the end of the second act.”
Ray puts the Steelers coaching on blast. Particularly Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada.
“I don’t recall Bill Belichick teams making the kind of blunders the Steelers seem to make on a regular basis. Poor tackling, dropped passes and fumbles.
And where are the fresh offensive plays we expected from the offensive coordinator?”
Point taken. Although, I also don’t recall Bill Belichick having to coach Mason Rudolph and Devlin “Duck” Hodges at quarterback.
Then again, he did coach Matt Cassel to an 11-5 record, didn’t he? Hmm. Scratch that.
As for the fresh offensive plays, I dunno. Honestly, a good old-fashioned handoff to the potential Rookie of the Year running back on first-and-goal from the 5-yard line to start that failed third-quarter goal-line sequence would’ve been just fine by me.
Henry is trying to make himself feel better about the Steelers result by looking at how the Cleveland Browns got cow-kicked 45-7 by the New England Patriots.
I’m sure the #Browns fans would gladly trade places with us today!

Sorry, Henry. The Browns lost to a six-win team. The Steelers tied a winless team at home.
I just can’t rationalize away the results of that awful game by thinking “AFC Rival X” stinks worse.
In a since-deleted tweet, Jeff wrote:
“The Steelers have not lost in the past 5 weeks. That must just annoy the Tomlin haters and the negative media members like Mark Madden and Tim Benz.”
Maybe Jeff deleted the tweet because he realized this wasn’t the right time to exchange “winning streak” for “unbeaten streak” and act like no one is going to notice.
When I sent that reply, Jeff snapped back.
“Facts are facts, Tim. Everyone wrote them off at 1-3. Now 0.5 games out of the 2 seed. No spin. No politics. No hate. Just facts.”
Here’s another fact. They just tied a winless team at home on a day when that winless team didn’t even play particularly well.
David sent this email about the tie with a specific concern.
“Can the NFL be sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress?”
It’s 2021. I think the NFL can get sued for just about anything. But probably not that.
However, if you have a child at your home who is under 17 and was allowed to watch that game, I bet DCFS has you on a watch list by now.
Let’s end with someone who appears to have the proper perspective on things. The floor is yours, Rea.
“The running game stinks.
The passing game stinks.
The defense stinks.
The special teams stink
Even with all of our injuries and young guys playing together for the first time, with all the penalties called against an 0-8 team, the Stillers should’ve won by two touchdowns.
At least.
When are Stiller fans going to wake up?
When will sleepy-eyed Art Rooney II wake up? Does he even care?
If ‘the standard is the standard’ will anyone ever have the gumption to hold Mike Tomlin accountable?
Instead of gushing about how many games he’s won and the fact he has no losing seasons (hang in there, one’s coming) why won’t you guys get Rooney to talk about the games he should’a won and didn’t?”
Like I said. Total perspective.
