On this week’s edition of Unfiltered, Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss the impact of social issues on sports.

Madden talks about Brooklyn Nets player Kyrie Irving pushing back against the NBA’s plan to restart games in July in Orlando. Madden empathizes with Irving but says it’s easy for Irving as one of the top paid players in the league, but what about other players in the league that are not as well-paid? They should be able to play and get paid.

Also if NBA games do not resume, the players lose a platform to talk about issues like racism in America. Madden sees the starting of NBA games as a way for players to have a platform to promote causes like Black Lives Matter.

The guys also talk about the upcoming NFL season and if Colin Kaepernick can land on a team and what that would mean.

Talking about racism in America, Madden slams the Washington Redskins for not changing the name of the team, under the guise of tradition.

The guys also talk about the potential return of the NHL and Penguins’ Jake Guentzel’s chances to play once games resumes. Madden thinks the Penguins have a real shot at winning the Stanley Cup.

The guys also not about going out how people are returning to normal even as the pandemic continues, maybe a little too soon.
