Tim Benz and Mark Madden return for this week’s edition of “Unfiltered” on TribLive’s Facebook page to talk about the state of the Penguins, Ben Roethlisberger’s new contract with the Steelers, Juju Smith-Schuster’s outlook as free agency nears, and more.
The Penguins beat the New York Rangers on Sunday and have won seven of their last ten. So there has been some improvement in the play.
Mark Madden doesn’t think they have improves so much as they are just winning games at this point. They still dig themselves a hole, but are getting wins in regulation and not giving away loser points.
Tristan Jarry is still allowing about three goals a game, but is making better saves. Evgeni Malkin is starting to produce. So the team is playing better and are in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Division with games against the bottom-dwellers in the division coming up.
They guys also talk about the other teams in the division: who’s playing well, and who’s struggling. And what they think of the current format the NHL is using. Will some of it carry over to next season?
Benz and Madden discuss Ben Roethlisberger’s new contract with the Steelers and what that means for other signings. The guys still don’t think having Roethlisberger back next season means the Steelers will manage to get into the playoffs and win.
The guys remind everyone that this team dropped five of their last six games and were bounced from the playoffs, so why would the organization need to keep all the players?
They also discuss an idea floating around to change the NFL overtime rules. Does it makes sense? Does it matter?
And the guys talk about Juju Smith-Schuster’s stance that he wants to be a Steeler forever - will that really happen?
Benz and Madden also answer viewers comments and questions and talk about their latest Netflix viewing, including the movie “I Care A Lot.”
