Unfiltered: Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss Penguins, Pirates, Steelers and NFL Draft
Refreshed and refocused after a week off, Tim Benz and Mark Madden return for this week’s edition of “Unfiltered” on TribLive’s Facebook page to talk about how the Penguins are playing, what the Steelers might do in the NFL Draft, the Pirates at .500, and more.
Benz went to Hawaii for a week, but Madden is the one — as usual — with the Hawaiian shirt. The guys talk Penguins continuing to impress and the big picture view with the playoffs coming soon.
“The Penguins are playing great … and no one wants to here this, but their systemic rise to power, their Xs-and-Os, 200-foot play coincides with Evgeni Malkin not playing,” Madden states. “And soon he is going to be back and then some real serious questions will need to be asked and answered.”
Benz says that coach Mike Sullivan has done a great job getting the team to play the right way, with a very systemic type of hockey, but in the past two postseasons when a series starts to go the wrong way, the team seems to abandon the approach.
The guys discuss what happens when Malkin returns and whether that will disrupt the team, specially with the power play.
Benz and Madden also talk about what the Steelers do the NFL Draft, what the contract extension for Mike Tomlin means for the team, Pirates playing well and answer viewers comments.
