Unfiltered: Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss Penguins’ protect list, Steelers' pass rushing needs, Pirates' weekend
Mark Madden and Tim Benz open up this week’s edition of “Unfiltered” on TribLIVE’s Facebook page discussing the players the Pittsburgh Penguins protected, and did not protect, this before the NHL expansion draft.
Among those left unprotected were forwards Brandon Tanev and Zach Aston-Reese. Meanwhile, Jeff Carter was protected. Madden and Benz discuss why that happened. They also look at other players the Seattle Kraken could take, including Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price.
The draft takes place on Wednesday.
Madden and Benz also discuss the Steelers’ interest in free agent pass rusher Melvin Ingram. The team needs help at that position. Madden thinks the team should bring Ingram in - if his knee checks out - and start him. Benz thinks second-year player Alex Highsmith has potential and the team should see what he can do.
Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins continue to make news off the field. The guys talk about that as well as other NFL news, including Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback Tom Brady’s return to New England in Week Four of the season.
Madden and Benz also recap the Pirates crazy weekend series against the New York Mets. The Buccos took two of three, but couldn’t finish the sweep, even after the bizarre start of Sunday’s game.
The guys also answer viewers comments and questions.
