Unfiltered: Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss Steelers getting into the playoffs
What a stunning turn of events. The Jacksonville Jaguars upset the Indianapolis Colts Sunday afternoon, helping the Steelers fall in line for a playoffs spot.
And then in the last game of the weekend, the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Los Angles Chargers in overtime to cinch a playoff spot for themselves and the Steelers. Had the Raiders-Chargers game ended in a tie (and it looked like it was going to), the Steelers would be out of the playoffs.
“It’s amazing how something amazing gave way to something even more amazing,” Madden said on this edition of “Unfiltered” with Tim Benz on TribLIVE’s Facebook page.
“If that game ended in a tie, Pittsburgh would be burning right now,” Madden added.
Madden also talks about the risks in kicking the field goal for the Raiders — as a knee would have gotten them into the playoffs without risking a fluke play that could have gone the other way.
With the Steelers set to face the Kansas City Chiefs on the wild-card weekend, Madden wonders if T.J. Watt will get his first playoff sack to go along with his regular season sacks.
Madden and Benz also talk about Steelers coach Mike Tomlin looking like a genius because the Steelers won, rather than a scapegoat if they lost.
The guys also talk about Chris Boswell’s day, more on the Raiders-Chargers game, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert pending departure and preview the Steelers-Chiefs game.
They also answer viewers comments and questions.
