Unfiltered: Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss Steelers loss to Raiders
Mark Madden and Tim Benz discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday on this week’s edition of “Unfiltered” on TribLIVE’s Facebook page.
The guys start by looking at the Steelers wide receivers and Madden says that with no real No. 1 receiver, it’s hard to establish a pecking order. After a good game against the Buffalo Bills on Week 1, Madden thought that Chase Claypool could be the top receiver, but he had two drops against the Raiders and didn’t help the team.
And now Diontae Johnson is hurt, so the receivers suffer another setback.
The guys also discuss some of head coach Mike Tomlin’s decisions during the game.
Madden goes on to say that he thinks Ben Roethlisberger is shot. “I think that he can only make the occasional good throw. I don’t think he’s any better than the average quarterback now.
“I think he’s pushing the ball. I think his mobility is minimal. And I think he’s been betrayed by a terrible offensive line.”
Madden points out that Sunday’s game was winnable, but Roethlisberger was among the players who didn’t turn in a performance to win it.
But it’s not all on Roethlisberger, says Madden. “Ben has been put in a situation where he has to carry the offense … at 39.”
Madden and Benz also discuss other games in the NFL, Pitt football and the Penguins, and answer viewers comments and questions.
