Mark Madden - back after some time off - and Tim Benz discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers and T.J. Watt’s contract situation, the season opener against the Buffalo Bills, NFL predictions, Penguins news, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly and more on this week’s edition of “Unfiltered” on TribLIVE’s Facebook page.
Madden says that he thinks the Steelers will capitulate and give Watt exactly what he wants - $100 million contract with lots of guaranteed money. “The Steelers are going to give quarterback money to an edge rusher — whether they regret that in the long run, I don’t know.” says Madden.
Madden also compares Watt to another big-name linebacker, Aaron Donald, and says he doesn’t exactly stack up.
Benz agrees that Steelers will pay Watt, but he’s wondering what is taking so long to get the contract done.
The guys also compare the Watt situation with how Le’Veon Bell handled his franchise tag from the team.
They also look ahead to the Steelers opener against the Bills this Sunday. Madden and Benz think the Bills win and they make some other predictions for the season.
