Tim Benz and Mark Madden on “Unfiltered” on TribLIVE Facebook page on Monday, June 22, 2020.

On this week’s edition of Unfiltered, Tim Benz and Mark Madden discuss whether sports are coming back at all amid the coronavirus pandemic.

With several professional and college players being diagnosed with covid-19, how are the leagues going to handle the cases?

Madden thinks that other countries have done a better job dealing with the pandemic and cites soccer returning in several European countries as an example. He thinks that the U.S. has not done a good job and that people are being way too casual about the virus.

Madden recounts that he’s been out and has not seen people wearing masks or abiding by social distancing guideline and have actually approached him to take selfies.

Benz and Madden discuss how the leagues will report when a player gets the virus. Will it be reported as an upper body injury in the NHL?

The guys also talk about recent comments by Dr. Anthony Fauci and President Donald Trump on the upcoming NFL season. Madden thinks the NFL should go with a bubble scenario for the league, like the NBA is planning. Though the NBA reboot is going to take place in Orlando, with the backdrop of rising coronavirus cases in Florida.

Benz and Madden talk about what might lead players to break the bubble and sneak away.

And more discussion about NHL hub cities, great Pittsburgh sports defeats, and the perception of the ongoing MLB labor dispute.
