Tim Benz and Mark Madden on “Unfiltered” on TribLIVE Facebook page on Monday, May 11, 2020.

On this week’s edition of Unfiltered, Tim Benz and Mark Madden cover recent Steelers news, including a NFL analyst’s comments about quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Also they discuss how the NHL and MLB, as well as other sports, might or might not restart amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week Jay Glazer of Fox Sports made some comments about how fit Ben Roethlisberger will be in his return this season. Glazer then backpedaled - a lot. Madden didn’t think much of the comments, but saw it as another example of the national media picking on Roethlisberger.

The guys also talk about the Roethlisberger’s return and the impact it will have on the team’s record. And they talk about the release of the NFL schedule of games, which looks favorable for the Steelers. Benz and Madden share how the Steelers will finish: Benz says 9-7, maybe 10-6; Madden says 9-7, maybe 8-8. Maybe they sneak into the Wild Game in the playoffs.

But will the NFL season actually play out?

Madden doesn’t think the season will start of time and may not get off at all. With decisions about restarting games - and society in general - left to individual state government, rather than the federal government, Madden doesn’t think things will proceed smoothly or in a coordinated way. Madden is very doubtful of the NFL, as well as the other leagues starting.

But in the end Madden does not think any sports - any where - are going to play again, well except for pro wrestling, UFC, and baseball leagues in Korea and China.

They feel that many players what a completely safe environment to play, or they are not going to play at all.

The guys also talk about the Pirates and their relevance in Pittsburgh. The team’s payroll is the lowest in MLB.

And about the NHL the Madden and Benz discuss the deal the league has with the TV networks and how that is effecting their need to get back to playing games.

Benz and Madden also respond to some reader comments from last week’s show. And what about the finale of “Brockmire”?
