Penguins player tests positive for coronavirus
The Pittsburgh Penguins issued a statement Thursday stating an unidentified player tested positive for the coronavirus that has halted the NHL, as well as most sports leagues around the globe, since mid-March.
In the statement, the Penguins indicated the player is not in Pittsburgh and has been in isolation at home since he first experienced symptoms. The team also stated the player is “recovered and feeling well.” Those in close contact with him prior to his diagnosis have been notified.
The Penguins are the third NHL team to reveal a player or staffer has contracted the coronavirus. In April, the Ottawa Senators reported six members of the organization had tested positive. They were followed by the Colorado Avalanche organization, which revealed three players had tested positive.
Last week, the NHL revealed plans for the league to potentially restart the 2019-20 season in the summer.
