UPG women win AMCC soccer title, earn NCAA berth
Still undefeated and wanting more, the Pitt-Greensburg women’s soccer team won its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Penn State Behrend before 247 at Westmoreland County Community College.
The victory secures the Bobcats (19-0-1) a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins next weekend. Brackets will be revealed Monday afternoon.
Junior Allie Grimm, junior Erika Caldro and freshman Ashley Lucas all scored for top-seeded UPG, which held off a late comeback from Behrend (10-7-2), the No. 2 seed.
Freshman Alexsia Barlamas and sophomore Tiffany Michalek had assists for UPG.
Lucas scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-1 with 49:23 remaining. She joined Michalek and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Yoder on the all-tournament team.
