Here at “Breakfast With Benz” on Wednesday, we posted a link to Nate Davis’ USA Today story that ranked the Top 100 teams in NFL history.
The Steelers were well-represented. Seven different editions of the franchise were on it — all six Super Bowl champs and the 1976 team that got to the AFC title game.
But none of them ranked higher than eighth — that’s where you could find the 1975 team.
Normally, when rankings about all-time teams come out, some version of the Super Steelers of the 1970s can be found in the top three or four.
LISTEN: USA Today's Nate Davis talks about his Top 100 NFL teams listAt worst.
Davis joined me on 105.9 the X on Thursday to explain why he went in a different direction.
We also talk to Davis about why he doesn’t have any Patriots teams in his Top 15, where he thinks the Ben Roethlisberger-era units rank, and why some of the Giants teams that won Super Bowls aren’t rated higher.
On the flip side, Davis also made his picks for 2019. He’s got the Steelers winning the AFC North. And he has the Browns missing the playoffs.
So that should appease Pittsburghers on two fronts.
