Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Vance McDonald said his injured back felt better and confirmed that he returned to full-practice status Thursday.
Sunday, McDonald will return to San Francisco, 25 months after his trade from the 49ers.
The seven-year veteran doesn’t sound as if he’s all that nostalgic about coming back to the place where he spent the first four of his seven NFL seasons.
“I mean, it’s a football game; I’m not treating it any differently,” McDonald said. “Obviously spending four years there playing and living, it will being that amount of extra excitement to me and for me. But, no. They’re just guys in helmets, and we’ve just got to execute and do our job.”
McDonald has more catches (73 to 64) and as many touchdowns (seven) from 2017-19 for the Steelers than he had from 2013-16 after being a second-round pick of San Francisco.During last week’s game McDonald surpassed his San Francisco career receiving yardage (866) with what he’s gained for the Steelers (876).
McDonald is second in the Steelers this season in receptions with nine; he has the team’s lone two receiving touchdowns.
