Vincentian graduate Kyler Fedko, who found a power stroke this season at the University of Connecticut after hitting .412 in 13 games in 2020, was chosen by the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in the 12th round of the MLB Draft. He was the 369th overall selection.

Fedko, 21, was the Big East Player of the Year this season after hitting .398 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs for UConn. In one six-game stretch against Texas Tech and St. Joseph’s, Fedko (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) hit .704 (19 for 27).

Over three seasons at UConn, he compiled a .335 batting average, with 19 homers and 89 RBIs while playing the outfield.

At Vincentian, Fedko was a four-year starter and led his team to PIAA baseball championships in 2016 and 2018. In 2018, he hit .769 in the postseason, making only four outs in 27 plate appearances. That was after recording a .661 batting average with eight home runs and 40 RBIs in the regular season.

He also started on WPIAL championship basketball and baseball teams in 2018, and hit the winning shot in the second title game to beat Union at Petersen Events Center.

Fedko is a son of former WPXI sports anchor John Fedko.
