Starter Nick Drake turned in a dominant performance and outfielder Tyler Horvat was the offensive catalyst as Washington & Jefferson defeated Saint Vincent College, 3-0, Saturday to claim the school’s 13th PAC baseball championship.

Drake (Canon-McMillan) went seven innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight. Michael Zito earned the save with two scoreless innings for the Presidents (36-1).

Horvat (Penn-Trafford) walked, stole second and scored on a groundout in both the first and third innings. Nate Rush added an RBI single in the eighth.

Brenden Lavely took the loss for Saint Vincent (17-18).

WCCC 6, PGCC 2 – Jared Wagner (Mt. Pleasant) pitched eight scoreless innings of relief and Matt Wicker (Greensburg Salem) singled, doubled twice and drove in three runs as Westmoreland County Community College defeated Prince Georges Community College to win the Region XX title and advance to the district tournament next weekend at Rockingham Community College in North Carolina.

“Our players have earned this through what has been a very challenging regular season schedule,” said coach Mike Draghi, whose Wolfpack is now one step from the NJCAA Division III World Series after going 8-24 in the regular season while playing Division I and II competition.
