Weekend College top 10: Cal (Pa.) men clinch 1st PSAC tourney berth in 6 seasons
Every Monday, the Tribune-Review will highlight 10 top area college performances from the weekend:
1. Cal (Pa.) men end PSAC Tournament drought
Jermaine Hall Jr. scored a career-best 23 points, and the Vulcans clinched their first conference tournament berth since 2013-14 with a 98-70 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Brent Pegram added 21 points for Cal (15-6, 11-4), which swept the season series against The Rock (10-11, 6-9) for the first time since 2009-10.

The Vulcans are tied for second in the PSAC West with Pitt-Johnstown. They trail IUP (13-2). Cal went 8-19 last season.
Will Robinson Jr. led Slippery Rock with 15 points.
2. Duquesne women hand VCU 1st Atlantic 10 loss
Libby Bazelak scored a career-best 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting as the visiting Dukes prevailed 79-76 on Sunday.
Duquesne (15-7, 5-4) led by 10 with 34 seconds left before VCU (12-9, 7-1) rallied.

Laia Sole scored 16 points, and Paige Cannon added 11 for the Dukes, who beat VCU for the eighth straight time.
The Rams fell behind Dayton (8-0) for first place.
3. Carnegie Mellon’s McNeil ties assist record
Senior Colin McNeil recorded 17 assists, tying the University Athletic Association’s single-game record, to lead the Tartans past NYU, 84-71, on Friday.
McNeil also broke the single-game school record and needs four assists to break the 43-year-old school record for assists in a season (138). His 410 career assists are 33 away from breaking the career record.

Trent Suddeth finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds for CMU (9-8, 2-4).
4. No. 5 IUP women extend winning streak to 18
Rajah Fink’s career-best 20 points led the Crimson Hawks past Mercyhurst, 73-59, on Saturday.

Justina Mascaro added 16 points for IUP (20-1, 15-0), which became the first team in the Atlantic Region to reach 20 wins.
The Crimson Hawks lead Gannon (17-4, 13-2) by two games in the West Division.
5. RMU women improve to 9-0 in conference
Four players scored in double figures, and the Colonials routed Central Connecticut State, 80-42, in the Northeast Conference on Saturday.
It was the largest margin of victory this season for Robert Morris (14-6, 9-0).

Dahomee Forgues led the way with 15 points, Nneka Ezeigbo and Laura Carrasco scored 14 apiece and Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu totaled 10 points and 14 rebounds.
6. Grove City women continue program-best start
Kate Balcom scored 19 points, Jess Bowen (North Hills) added 15 and the Wolverines nearly doubled up Bethany, 81-42, in the PAC on Saturday.

Grove City (17-2, 9-2) pulled away with an 18-5 run in the third quarter.
Westminster (17-3, 10-1) and Saint Vincent (14-6, 10-1) are tied for first in the conference.
7. No. 5 IUP men upset by Mercyhurst
Zach McIntire scored a career-best 28 points, and the Lakers knocked off the first-place Crimson Hawks, 68-62, in a PSAC game Saturday.
Mercyhurst (12-7, 10-5) led by as many as 21 early in the second half before IUP (18-2, 13-2) rallied.
Armoni Foster led IUP with 20 points and eight rebounds. The Crimson Hawks lead the West Division by two games.
8. Wells hits milestone for surging Grove City
Senior James Wells scored 14 points — including the 1,000th of his career — to help the Wolverines beat Bethany, 75-66, in a PAC game Saturday.
Wells became the 29th men’s player in program history to reach the mark.

Justice Rice (Monessen) led Grove City (12-7, 9-2) with 19 points. The first-place Wolverines have won eight straight games, their longest winning streak since the 1990-91 team won 11.
9. Pitt gymnastics shines in quad meet
The Panthers recorded their high score of the season with a 195.700, defeating George Washington, No. 24 West Virginia and William & Mary in a quad-meet Friday.
Michaela Burton recorded the fourth-best individual beam score in team history (9.925) en route to victory.

Haley Brechwald (vault, 9.950) and Ciara Ward (floor, 9.875) also earned wins for Pitt (3-3, 1-2).
10. No. 2 Penn State men’s lacrosse opens with victory
Gerard Arceri recorded 15 ground balls — becoming the program’s all-time leader — to help the Nittany Lions top Lafayette, 16-9, on Saturday.
Grant Ament finished with four goals and six assists for the Nittany Lions, and Mac O’Keefe had six goals and an assist.

Arceri upped his ground ball total to 450, passing the 435 by Chris Marcus (1990-93).
