Every Monday, the Tribune-Review will highlight 10 top area college performances from the weekend:

1. Cal (Pa.) men end PSAC Tournament drought

Jermaine Hall Jr. scored a career-best 23 points, and the Vulcans clinched their first conference tournament berth since 2013-14 with a 98-70 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Brent Pegram added 21 points for Cal (15-6, 11-4), which swept the season series against The Rock (10-11, 6-9) for the first time since 2009-10.

The Vulcans are tied for second in the PSAC West with Pitt-Johnstown. They trail IUP (13-2). Cal went 8-19 last season.

3. Carnegie Mellon’s McNeil ties assist record

Senior Colin McNeil recorded 17 assists, tying the University Athletic Association’s single-game record, to lead the Tartans past NYU, 84-71, on Friday.

McNeil also broke the single-game school record and needs four assists to break the 43-year-old school record for assists in a season (138). His 410 career assists are 33 away from breaking the career record.

Trent Suddeth finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds for CMU (9-8, 2-4).
