Every Monday, the Tribune-Review will highlight 10 top area college performances from the weekend:

1. WR Wynn, No. 8 Slippery Rock dominate in playoff opener

Jermaine Wynn Jr. (Woodland Hills) equaled the NCAA Division II playoff mark with 18 catches as The Rock ousted Shepherd, 51-30, in a second-round game Saturday.

Wynn finished with 229 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Slippery Rock (12-0), which had a season-high 652 yards of offense.

The Rock will host No. 13 Notre Dame (Ohio) (12-1) at noon Saturday in a rematch of last year’s quarterfinals, which Notre Dame won 21-17.

Roland Rivers III threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 33 yards and another touchdown. He broke the single-season school records for total yards (4,449 yards), passing yards (3,825) and completions (274).

Charles Snorweah ran for a career-best 163 yards to go with two touchdowns: a 38-yarder and a 36-yarder in the fourth quarter to help The Rock fend off Shepherd’s rally. Snorweah also caught a 25-yard touchdown.

2. Pitt women’s volleyball receives No. 6 seed in NCAA Tournament

The second-ranked Panthers (29-1) will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, opening at 7 p.m. Friday against Howard (20-12). Cincinnati (25-6) and VCU (24-6) play at 4 p.m., and the winners square off at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Pitt, which went 18-0 in the ACC, is in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season.

3. Penn State volleyball gets 11th seed for NCAAs

The seventh-ranked Nittany Lions (24-5) earned their 39th consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament and will host Ivy League champion Princeton (17-7) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first round. American and Towson play at 5 p.m. in the other match at Rec Hall, with the winners squaring off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

4. Late 3 lifts Pitt-Greensburg men

Cam Seigfreid (Penn-Trafford) made a 3-pointer with 19 seconds left as the Bobcats edged Penn State Behrend, 71-69, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Saturday.

Seigfreid finished with 14 points, including another 3 during a game-ending 8-0 run. Cody Spaid made 8 of 10 shots for a team-best 17 points for Pitt-Greensburg (4-1, 2-0).

5. RMU men’s hockey tops Mercyhurst in OT

Michael Coyne scored during the three-on-three overtime to propel the Colonials to a 3-2 victory Saturday in the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Justin Kapelmaster made 44 saves for Robert Morris (7-5-2, 7-2-2), which remained in first place.

6. No. 6 IUP men score season high in points

Dave Morris totaled 17 points to lead six players in double figures, and the Crimson Hawks shot 50.7% from the field in a 91-70 victory over Felician (N.J.) on Saturday.

Malik Miller added 16 points for IUP (6-0).

Felician dropped to 2-4.

7. Seton Hill women remain unbeaten

Cheyenne Trest (Canon-McMillan) scored 20 points, including six free throws in the final 47 seconds, as the Griffins downed Frostburg State, 85-78, in overtime Sunday.

Katie Nolan contributed 17 points and nine rebounds for Seton Hill (6-0), and Lexi Civittolo added 16 points.

Frostburg State slipped to 1-6.

8. Point Park prevails behind Burns

A season-best 28 points from Michelle Burns (Hempfield) led the Pioneers past Bryant & Stratton, 78-72, on Sunday.

Taylor Kirschner finished with 15 points and made three of Point Park’s 14 3-pointers.

The Pioneers improved to 5-4, and the Bobcats dropped to 5-3.

9. Cal (Pa.) men surge to 5th straight win

Zyan Collins had 23 points on 11-for-18 shooting, and the Vulcans defeated Glenville State, 83-72, on Sunday.

Philip Alexander contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double for the Vulcans (5-2, 2-1 PSAC).

10. 3 Penn State wrestlers win titles

Freshmen Aaron Brooks (184 pounds), Michael Beard (197) and Seth Nevills (285) took first at the Mat-Town Open on Sunday at Lock Haven. The Nittany Lions (1-1) continue their dual-match schedule Friday at Lehigh.
