Every Monday, the Tribune-Review will highlight 10 top area college performances from the weekend:

1. W&J baseball extends win streak to 10, stays perfect in PAC

The Presidents (13-7, 8-0 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) needed 10 innings but finished off a weekend sweep of Chatham with a 6-3 victory to keep their winning streak alive. Chatham tied Sunday’s game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. In the 10th, Cole Reese (Greensburg Central Catholic) had an RBI single, and Nick Guercio (Knoch) had a two-run triple to deliver the victory. Dante Dalesandro (Mt. Lebanon) went 7 for 13 with five RBIs and four runs in the three-game sweep.

2. Geneva’s Parker beats national champ in hurdles

Senior Alex Parker of the Golden Tornadoes track and field team won the 100-meter dash and 110 hurdles at Saturday’s Wooster Invitational. In the hurdles, he defeated reigning Division III champion Mason Plant of Mount Union. Plant also was coming off winning the national indoor title in the 60 hurdles over the winter. Parker’s time of 11.08 seconds in the 100 was the fastest in the PAC this season, as was his 14.78 seconds in the 110s.

3. Mercyhurst’s Matthew Minnick fans 16

The Lakers completed a doubleheader sweep of Cal (Pa.) on Friday behind the redshirt senior left-hander’s career performance. Minnick worked six innings, giving up only two hits and no earned runs in a 5-1 victory. He recorded the first nine outs via strikeout, including three consecutive K’s in the third.

4. Waynesburg’s Miller dominates Bethany

Yellowjackets pitcher Mason Miller (Bethel Park) improved to 4-0 with a two-hit, 1-0 victory over the Bison on Saturday. Miller struck out 15, including the first seven he faced. His former Bethel Park teammate, Mitch Nordstrom, doubled and scored the game’s only run on Jonny Kutchman’s single. Miller has a 0.85 ERA and has held opponents to a .191 average. Waynesburg is 11-11, 5-2 in the PAC.

5. Historic win for Penn State men’s lacrosse

Sophomore midfielder Jack Kelly scored three goals — one of eight Nittany Lions to score in the game — and top-ranked Penn State (8-1, 1-0) defeated No. 3 Maryland, 13-10, on Sunday in their Big Ten opener. That raised PSU’s all-time record against the Terps to 3-40, with the Nittany Lions’ only other wins in the series coming in 1916 and ’20 before Maryland was a varsity program. Mac O’Keefe added two goals and two assists.

6. Eight is enough for Gannon’s Cardy

Gannon baseball’s Nate Cardy, apparently angry his 11-game hitting streak ended in the opener of Friday’s doubleheader with Clarion, drove in eight runs in the second game as the Golden Knights rolled 17-1. Cardy had a grand slam, a two-run double and a two-run single to help move the Golden Knights to 4-0 in the PSAC (16-6 overall). The Knights outscored Clarion, 27-2, in the doubleheader sweep.

7. Pitt offensive outburst Part I: Softball

The Panthers picked up just their second ACC win of the season — and fifth overall — in a big way, scoring a season high in runs in a 14-5 win over North Carolina on Saturday. The Panthers also had a season high in hits (15) and homers (five). Senior Gabrielle Fredericks had two homers, and Olivia Gray (Trinity), Katlyn Pavlick (South Park) and Morgan Batesole had one each. Sophomore Hunter Levesque went 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs. Pitt is 5-28, 2-10.

8. Pitt offensive outburst Part II: Ron Washington Jr.

The Panthers (8-18, 2-10 ACC) outslugged Miami (Fla.), 11-10, on Saturday behind the sophomore’s big day. Washington had three hits — all doubles — and drove in six runs to spearhead the win over the Hurricanes. His third double drove in a pair to cap a four-run seventh inning that turned the Panthers’ 9-7 deficit into an 11-9 lead. In Sunday’s series finale, a 5-3 Hurricanes win, Washington had a hit to extend his streak of reaching base to 24 games. He is hitting .320 with a team-best 15 RBIs.

9. Point Park softball extends streak

Thanks in large part to a strong performance by sophomore Maddie Horn, the Pioneers (10-13, 5-3 River States Conference) ran their winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Cincinnati Christian on Friday. In the opener, Horn scored all three runs in a 3-2 victory. She homered and drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap, a 4-1 victory. Junior pitcher Katie Tarr (Burgettstown) had a career-high 15 strikeouts in the second game.

10. WVU baseball takes series from Oklahoma

The Mountaineers defeated No. 19 Oklahoma, 5-1, on Sunday to take two of three from the Sooners. The victory was No. 205 for coach Randy Mazey, moving him to No. 4 on the program’s all-time list. Marques Inman hit a two-run homer and drove in three, more than enough to back pitchers Kade Strowd, Ryan Bergert and Sam Kessler, who combined to hold Oklahoma to five hits and strike out 11. They also combined to strand 13 OU runners. In Saturday’s nightcap, Paul McIntosh homered and drove in three to lead WVU (16-11, 2-4 Big 12) to a 12-4 win.
