Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley, a native of West Mifflin, recorded the primary assist on the game-winning goal for the United States in a 6-2 victory agianst Sweden in a semifinal round game of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship tournament at Avicii Arena in Stockholm on Saturday.
With the win, the United States advanced to a championship final game in this tournament for the first time since the IIHF adopted a full playoff format in 1992. The United States has not played in a championship final game regardless of format since 1934.
Opening play as the United States’ top-line center, Cooley had one shot and was 7 for 20 (35.0%) on faceoffs while logging 15:36 of ice time on 20 shifts.
