West Point 12U bounces back; 10U team falls

It was a 50/50 day for the West Point Little League baseball teams in the Pennsylvania State Tournament.

At Newville, the West Point 12U team defeated Coventry, 2-1, in a losers’ bracket game. West Point scored two runs in the first inning and held on for the win despite being no-hit.

Croix Lattanzio and Nicholas Hisman combined on a five-hitter. Coventry scored in the second inning.

They also drove in West Point’s runs. Sebastian Shine and Santino Facciani scored the runs.

West Point faces North Lebanon at 4 p.m. Friday.

At Dallas, the West Point 10U team dropped a 5-4 decision in eight innings to Council Rock Newtown.

West Point grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and increased its lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning.

Council Rock Newtown tied the score in the fifth inning with a pair of runs.

West Point scored a run in the top of the eighth inning, but Council Rock Newtown responded with two in the bottom of the inning.

Lucas Henry had two hits for West Point, and Matias Caraballo drove in two runs.

Hilton Bricker and Fin Walker were the West Point pitchers.

West Point girls

West Point’s 12U softball team will square off against Massapequa (N.Y.) for the Little League Mid-Atlantic Region title at 7 p.m. Friday on ESPN in Bristol, Conn.

West Point defeated Massapequa, 6-0, on Monday.

The West Point 10U squad opens the Pennsylvania softball state tournament 11 a.m. Friday against Snyder County at Fairchance. Bullskin Township, the tournament host, will face Caln Township at 6 p.m.
