West Point, Yough Little League softball teams headed for showdown

It will be a Westmoreland County showdown at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Pennsylvania Little League Softball U-11 tournament at West Point.

Yough, which defeated Loyalsock, 6-1, and Greencastle-Antrim, 17-3, on Saturday will face returning state champion West Point.

The host defeated Greater Wyoming on Friday, 11-1.

Riley Miller tossed a one-hitter for West Point. She also had two hits including a double.

Laurel Howard went 3-for-3 including a two-run double in the third inning, while Ava Shipman also had three hits including a three-run home run in the first inning.

In Yough’s first win against Loyalsock, Sidney Bergman threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Kylee Odelli had two hits and Abbey Zuraw had two hits and three RBIs.

On Saturday, Yough’s Adoria Waldier hurled a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Kylee Fisher had three hits including a double and two RBIs.

In a loser’s bracket game, Loyalsock Township edged Greater Wyoming, 10-9, on a bases-loaded two-out walk-off walk.

Loyalsock faces Greencastle-Antrim at 4 p.m.
