West Virginia guard Javon Small goes to Memphis in 2nd round of NBA Draft
West Virginia guard Javon Small was picked by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 18th pick of the second round, 48th overall, of the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Small, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound Indiana native, had a big senior year for the Mountaineers, averaging 18.6 points, 5.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals en route to being named all-Big 12 first-team honors and AP honorable-mention all-American.
According to his NBA.com scouting report, Small is a committed defender and talented playmaker who can create his own shot, but he might be limited by his size in the pros.
Small started his college career with East Carolina before transferring to Oklahoma State for his junior year and West Virginia for his senior year.
Among his highlights at WVU, Small scored 31 points in a win over Gonzaga at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, hit the winning free throw in an upset win over Kansas, scored 24 points in a victory over his former team at Oklahoma State and had 12 points in the last two minutes of a dramatic win over Iowa State.
