Connor Schmidt and Palmer Jackson will head West on Monday to play in the prestigious Western Amateur at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
The site of the event is where John Daly became a household name when he won the 1991 PGA Championship.
Schmidt finished fourth last week at the Sunnehanna Amateur, his best finish in three attempts.
His final round was highlighted by his first hole-in-one on No. 10.
Schmidt, a Peters Township grad and senior at Drexel, wants to continue his hot golfing this week.
“My finish at Sunnehanna was definitely a confidence builder,” Schmidt said. “I’m looking forward to this week’s challenge.”
Jackson has been bothered by a groin injury that doesn’t prevent him from competing but affects his practice.
“I feel I’m ready to win a tournament,” said the 2019 Franklin Regional grad and Notre Dame sophomore. “I may need surgery, however, down the road.”
This is the fourth consecutive week Jackson had played in some major tournament. He competed in the Frank B. Fuhrer Jr. Invitational in late June and the Southern Amateur in Carrolton, Texas, two weeks ago.
Honoring Dr. Aber
The Tri-State PGA Dr. John Aber Memorial Golf Classic will be Monday at Allegheny Country Club.
Dr. Aber’s son, John, is the head golf professional at the course. His grandson, John F. Aber, also is playing.
Dr. Aber was a Greensburg native, and three Greensburg golfers — Vince Zachetti, Bob Allshouse, Ryan Sikora and Craig Mankins — are playing in the event.
