Lydia DeFazio is taking the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference by storm this softball season.

The sophomore first baseman/catcher at Mt. Aloysius was named AMCC Player of the Week after a dominating, four-game stretch for the Mounties (17-4, 4-0).

A Penn-Trafford graduate, DeFazio went 13 for 15 — hitting safely in 13 straight at-bats — with six home runs, two doubles, 13 RBIs and eight runs. She was 8 for 8 in a doubleheader sweep of Franciscan, and she hit three homers in the second game. Against Medaille, she delivered a walk-off home run.

Perhaps her slugging percentage best sums up her week: 2.200.

For the season, she leads the Mounties with a .509 average (28 for 55) and has seven homers, 28 RBIs and 18 runs, also team highs. The average, homers and RBIs also lead the AMCC.

Marist: Junior Claire Oberdorf (Greensburg Salem) hit her third home run of the season in a 5-3 loss to Iona. She is hitting .264 with 13 RBIs for the Foxes (16-15, 3-1).

Baseball

Washington & Jefferson: Senior Cole Reese (Greensburg Central Catholic) had the go-ahead RBI single as the Presidents (13-7, 8-0) extended their winning streak to 10 with a 6-3 win over Chatham.

Men’s track & field

Seton Hill: Two school records fell at the Raleigh Relays. Freshman Samuel Hartman broke a nine-year-old mark in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.55 seconds, good for third place.

The 1,600 relay team set a program mark with a time of 3 minutes, 14.47 seconds to take second. The team consists of Dominic Frisina, Cody Kelly, John Orlando and Dontay Jacobs. It is the third-best time in NCAA Division II this season.

Women’s track & field

Grove City: Senior Elizabeth Donahoe (Franklin Regional) finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.21 seconds at the Bethany Invitational.

Shippensburg: Senior Morgan DeFloria (Hempfield) won the javelin at the Fred Hardy Invitational with a throw of 145 feet, 11 inches. She was named the PSAC Field Athlete of the Week after she threw 149-3 at the Elizabethtown Early Bird Invitational. It was an NCAA provisional mark.

Men’s tennis

Pitt-Greensburg: Freshman Turner Price went 4-0 to earn AMCC Player of the Week. He won all of those matches at the No. 1 singles and doubles spots. He is 8-3 for the season at singles, 4-0 in conference play. He is 3-1 playing doubles.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Mauricio Sanchez was named PAC Rookie of the Week. Sanchez, from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, went 4-0 and moved his singles mark to 5-1 and is 4-2 in doubles.

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats (6-1, 2-0) are the hottest team in the PAC. They have won six straight matches, including a 7-2 victory over Westminster at Greensburg Racquet Club. Josh Boland is 6-0 playing No. 6 singles.

Women’s tennis

Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Hannah Sterrett (Latrobe) set a school record with her 12th singles victory of the season.

Women’s bowling

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Dani Koehler was named AMCC Bowler of the Week for the fifth time. She led all competitors in traditional (19.5) and Baker average (18.77) at the AMCC championships.

Women’s basketball

IUP: Senior guard Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg Central Catholic) was an All-American honorable mention selection by Women’s Division II Basketball Bulletin. Appleby helped the Crimson Hawks (30-4) to back-to-back Division II semifinal appearances.
