Westmoreland Campus Clippings: Flack shines in spring season
Justin Flack is finding his running rhythm out of the Waynesburg backfield, and this season could pave the way for more to come.
Flack, a sophomore from Derry, was named to the All-Presidents Athletic Conference First Team as an all-purpose player. Flack led the PAC in rushing yards despite missing the first game of the season, with 480 yards on 82 carries and four touchdowns. He also was seventh in the conference in all-purpose yards (128.2). He ran for 202 yards on 30 carries against Geneva, the largest rushing total this season in the conference.
Saint Vincent: Senior lineman Colton Belmont was named to the All-PAC First Team. Teammates David Marshall Jr., a senior all-purpose player, senior running back Mike Stadko, senior linebacker Cam Norris and freshman punter Jared Gonzalez made the second team.
Women’s tennis
Pitt-Greensburg: The Bobcats were lauded for a successful spring season with six all-AMCC selections.
Freshman Emily Ruhlman was the player and newcomer of the year, and Doug Smeltzer was tabbed coach of the year.
Ruhlman made the first team as No. 1 singles, joining freshman teammates Abigai Rosman and Cathryn Rossi, and sophomore Kelsey Murphy.
Miranda Berkebile earned second-team honors for singles and joined Rossi as a second-team pair in doubles.
Freshman Stephanie Pantelas and Murphy also were named to the second team in doubles.
Men’s track & field
Allegheny: freshman Jake Boord (Hempfield) won a conference title in the javelin with a distance of 180 feet, 2 inches at the NCAC Championships. The mark ranks 25th in the nation in Division III. Boord was named the NCAC Athlete of the Week.
Dickinson: Sophomore Luke Sternick (Hempfield) finished fifth in the 400-meter run at the Centennial Conference Championships.
Grove City: Freshman Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) ran the third leg of the 400 relay team that finished fourth (44.70 seconds) at the PAC Championships.
Dunlap also received All-PAC honorable mention recognition for football as a defensive back.
Navy: Junior Hayden Fox (Hempfield) finished second in the javelin at the Patriot League championships with a throw of 227-7. Fox was an honorable mention All-American in 2019 during the outdoor season.
Pitt-Johnstown: Sophomore Chris Colligan (Penn-Trafford) finished second in the high jump at the UPJ Last Chance Meet.
Seton Hill: Sophomore Hunter Martin (Belle Vernon) posted a pair of first-place finishes at the WVU Twilight, the final tune-up for the Griffins before the PSAC Championships. Martin won the triple jump (13.77 meters) and long jump (7.23), junior Alex Martin won the shot put (14.31), senior Owen Keith took home the 10K run (33:33) and junior Sam Hartman won the 110 hurdles (14.94).
Thiel: Sophomore Isaac Evans (Belle Vernon) finished sixth in the 80o in a time of 2:04.6 at the PAC Outdoor Championships.
Westminster: Sophomore Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) finished third in the 100 at the PAC Championships with a time of 11.16 seconds.
Women’s track & field
Duquesne: Sophomore Emily Brozeski (Norwin) finished second in the heptathlon at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Fairfax, Va. She was first in the 100 hurdles and long jump, fourth in the high jump and 800, third in the shot put, second in the 200 and sixth in the javelin.
Senior Gabby Holmberg (Hempfield) finished third in the triple jump (12.12 meters) and sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:02.36).
Navy: Senior captain Sam Orie (Hempfield) broke the school record in the hammer throw during the Patriot League championships with a mark of 197-9. No female thrower in program history had cleared 60 meters (about 196.85 feet).
Westminster: Sophomore Chloe Jaworski (Mt. Pleasant) took sixth in the discus (32.34 meters) at the PAC Championships. Junior Haley Moore (Greensburg Central Catholic) also came in sixth, in the 110 hurdles in 17.24 seconds.
