Westmoreland campus clippings: GCC grad Mort scores for No. 1 Pitt men's soccer
Standing on the sidelines as a member of a No. 1 ranked college soccer team is nice, but seeing the field and contributing to a victory is much better.
Just ask Luke Mort.
A redshirt freshman forward and Greensburg Central Catholic graduate for top-ranked Pitt, scored his first college goal Friday as the Panthers defeated host Louisville, 4-1, in ACC play.
In the 69th minute, Mort took possession of a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and connected on a left-footed shot to give Pitt a three-goal advantage.
Pitt is 5-0 for the first time since 2002.
Mort, who battled leg injuries during his senior season at GCC, where he scored a school-record 133 goals — and also set the 100-meter dash record in track — has appeared in two games for the Panthers.
