Westmoreland campus clippings: Gray leads Seton Hill men's lacrosse to key win
Junior Logan Gray came through in the clutch to lead the Seton Hill men’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 5 in the latest USILA Division II Coaches Poll, to a 12-11 win Friday at No. 16 Frostburg State.
Gray won a faceoff and scored five seconds into overtime to propel the Griffins (5-1).
Both teams now are 5-1 on the season. Seton Hill took a 7-6 lead into halftime before Frostburg State, which outshot the Griffins, 51-29, scored four times in the fourth quarter to rally from five down and tie it 11-11.
Grad student Logan Maloni had three goals and two assists, junior McGarity Harper had three scores and senior Tom Hanulak added two goals for the Griffins.
Men’s track & field
Seton Hill: Junior Sam Hartman broke two school records and hit NCAA provisional marks in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles at the Dave Labor Invitational. He won both events, in 14.19 seconds (110s) and 52.42 (400s). The 110 time is the best in the PSAC this season.
Senior Benton Bickerton (Southmoreland) won the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 22.42 seconds.
Waynesburg: Sophomore Andrew Kemerer (Yough) won the triple jump with a mark of 12.16 meters at the Geneva Golden Tornado Classic.
Women’s track & field
Seton Hill: Junior Sydney Wolf won the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 18.23 seconds at the Dave Labor Invitational.
Teammate Sarah Johnson, a grad student, also was a winner, in the 400 hurdles (1:06.79), while the 1,600-meter relay of junior Allison Pittman, sophomore Darby Roth, junior Alexis Cunningham and Wolf placed first in 4:10.39.
Waynesburg: Freshman Rebekah McFadden (Hempfield) placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:53.94 at the Geneva Golden Tornado Classic.
Men’s lacrosse
Grove City: Junior midfielder Keith Torrillo (Latrobe) had an assist and two ground balls for the Wolverines in a 22-9 victory over Saint Vincent.
Women’s lacrosse
Saint Vincent: Freshman Margaret Edwards (Norwin) had three goals, and junior Joey Smith had two goals and two assists to lead the Bearcats past Chatham, 9-8.
Seton Hill: The Griffins remained perfect with an 18-6 victory over Gannon. Sophomore Kristi Kada led Seton Hill (6-0) with five goals, while seniors Jaclyn Frank and Taylor Fox-Trudel each tallied six points. Fox-Trudel had four goals.
Kada was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week as she tallied nine goals and two assists across a pair of wins.
Waynesburg: Sophomore Eve O’Sullivan (Latrobe) had three goals in a 21-5 loss to Saint Vincent.
