A contingent of local players met in the first round of the FCS playoffs, including four Hempfield graduates.
But the bragging rights went to the Brose brothers, Braden and Fintan, who helped No. 23 Delaware to a convincing 56-17 victory over visiting Saint Francis (Pa.).
Braden Brose, a fifth-year tight end, had a 12-yard reception, while junior Fintan Brose saw time on the offensive line.
For Saint Francis, senior quarterback Justin Sliwoski threw for 103 yards and two scores. Cole Graham, a sophomore, started on the offensive line for the Red Flash.

IUP: Every play matters.
Redshirt senior fullback Cam Suman (Penn-Trafford) had a pass reception, and freshman linebacker Cole Weightman (Belle Vernon) added two quarterback hurries and a tackle in the Crimson Hawks’ 19-13 win over Ashland in the NCAA Division II Super Region One semifinal.
Women’s cross country
Seton Hill: Sophomore Hanna Smrcka qualified is headed to nationals.
Smrcka qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships with a fourth-place finish at the Atlantic Regional race.
She covered the 6K course in 21 minutes, 58.1 seconds.
The national meet is Dec. 3 at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Wash.
Smrcka and senior Darby Roth made the all-region team.
