Westmoreland campus clippings: Jeannette grad Ciara Gregory promoted at Charlotte
Charlotte women’s basketball promoted former standout guard and Jeannette alum Ciara Gregory to a full-time assistant coach.
The promotion comes after Gregory served as a graduate manager for two seasons.
Gregory, who earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with an American studies minor in 2017, completed a master’s degree this month in arts and liberal studies with a focus on coaching, leadership and sports.
A prolific guard for the 49ers, Gregory is the school’s all-time leader in career 3-pointers made (235) and attempted (695). She set a program single-game mark with nine 3s in 2017.
“After a thorough search for a new assistant coach, it became very clear that the right fit was right here at home,” 49ers coach Cara Consuegra said. “Ciara Gregory has poured her heart and soul into Charlotte.
“Ciara has all the characteristics I look for in a coach — work ethic, character, loyalty and passion for the game. I have watched Ciara grow and achieve success because of those things. I couldn’t be more excited to continue our journey together and work towards our goal of winning championships.”
Gregory finished her college career with 1,031 points. She is the all-time leading scorer at Jeannette with 2,130 points.
As a graduate manager, Gregory assisted with scouting, film breakdown, practices and travel plans.
“I want to thank coach Cara for believing in me since I was in high school,” Gregory said. “The love that she has poured into me over the years has been immeasurable. This opportunity is a dream come true, and I am extremely excited to give back to a program that has given me so much. I am so grateful to continue to represent Charlotte basketball. The direction in which our program and athletic department is heading is truly special.”
Gregory will coach another local talent in sophomore guard Cali Konek, the former WPIAL scoring sensation who finished her high school career at Franklin Regional.
