Westmoreland campus clippings: Latrobe's Pevarnik leaving Penn State
Former Latrobe golf standout Brady Pevarnik will play for a new team next season.
Pevarnik is leaving Penn State and will transfer to the College of Charleston (S.C.) for the spring semester.
A a regular contender during his WPIAL career, Pevarnik has top-10 finishes at the notable Scott Robertson Memorial and Southern Junior Championship. The former Westmoreland County Amateur champion also has a runner-up at the West Pennsylvania Amateur to his credit as well as a third-place finish at the Pennsylvania Amateur.
He played just three rounds as a freshman, averaging 74.0.

Wrestling
Pitt: Redshirt sophomore Micky Phillippi (Derry) earned a 12-3 decision at 133 pounds as the 10th-ranked Panthers blanked Drexel, 33-0. Phillippi, ranked No. 5 in his weight class, is 8-0 this season and 29-4 in his career.
Redshirt freshman Luke Kemerer (Hempfield) also picked up a win at 149 to move to 4-3 for the season.
Pitt-Johnstown: Top-ranked 149-pounder Chris Eddins (Greensburg Salem) scored a decision, and No. 3 Devin Austin was victorious at 165 as the fourth-ranked Mountain Cats defeated No. 7 Ashland, 19-12.

Women’s volleyball
Seton Hill: Junior outside hitter Viktoria Farian was named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-Atlantic Region second team and also was selected as an AVCA All-American honorable mention.
Farian led the Griffins (19-11) with 437 kills, 50 service aces and 42 blocks.
Seton Hill returned to the NCAA Division II Tournament but lost to Gannon in the Atlantic Regional.

Women’s swimming
Cal (Pa.): Sophomore Rylee Jackson (Latrobe) swam a leg of the 200-yard medley relay that finished in 2 minutes, 1.66 seconds to win at Davis & Elkins. Senior Karley Owens (Latrobe) won two individual events — the 200 butterfly (2:26.59) and 200 breaststroke (2:37.11) — and was second in the 100 back (1:06.98).
Saint Vincent: Freshman Katie Kozy won three events in a meet at Washington & Jefferson: the 100 freestyle (56.89 seconds) and 200 free (2:06.22). She also swam the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay (2:07.58).

Men’s indoor track & field
Saint Vincent: Junior Frankie King (Greensburg Salem) was named PAC Track Athlete of the Week after he placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run at the Youngstown State Icebreaker in a time of 9 minutes, 16.01 seconds.

Women’s indoor track & field
Clarion: Freshman Jenna Uncapher (Hempfield) finished seventh in the pentathlon in her second college event, the Mike Kowal Multi at Edinboro. She ran a time of 11.41 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, high-jumped 1.56 meters, and threw the shot put 8.85 meters before a 4.49 mark in the long jump and a 2:51.14 in the 800.
Penn State: Senior Maddie Holmberg (Hempfield) opened the season on a high note by winning the pentathlon at the Bison Opener at Bucknell. She won all five events to total 4.075 points. Holmberg won the 60 hurdles in 8.84 seconds, the high jump with a personal best of 1.66, the shot put with a toss of 13.12, the long jump with a leap of 1.66 and the 800 run in a time of 3:34.17.
She finished ninth at last season’s NCAA championships.

Softball
Cal (Pa.): Freshman outfielder Ava Gnibus (Mt. Pleasant) is transferring to Frostburg State. Gnibus played in 24 games with 19 starts last season.
