Westmoreland campus clippings: Penn-Trafford grad slugs her way to conference honor
Otterbein senior Hannah Dobrinick, a Penn-Trafford grad, has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.
A first baseman, Dobrinick went 7 for 11 in a four-game series against John Carroll with a pair of two-run home runs. She drove in five runs and scored seven times. She leads the team in batting average (.591) and is tied for the team lead in runs (13) and homers (3). She has nine RBIs in eight games.
Baseball
Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Jace Cappellini was named the AMCC Player of the Week after hitting .448 across the first eight games of the season. He went 4 for 4 when the Bobcats played Penn State Behrend and 3 for 5 with four RBIs against Hiram. He had 13 RBIs and eight runs.
Pitt-Johnstown: Sophomore Mario Disso (Penn-Trafford) is hitting .350 with seven runs and eight RBIs through seven games for UPJ (4-4).
Saint Vincent: The Bearcats downed Chatham, 4-1, as sophomore Jayke Saiani drove in two runs and junior Casey Jones struck out nine to earn his first pitching win. SVC also dropped a 12-5 decision to Chatham as freshman Julian Santana had a triple and two RBIs, and junior Zach Barberich added two RBIs.
In a 5-2 victory over Chatham, sophomore Jordan Sabol (Penn-Trafford) had two hits and two runs, while senior Matt Evans and sophomore Zack VonStein each had a pair of hits. Sabol, Santana and sophomores Johnny Daggs and Tim Beimel had three hits apiece, and Saiani drove in four in a 15-3 win over Chatham.
Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Tyler Horvat (Penn-Trafford) is hitting. 333 with two doubles and three runs scored for the Presidents. Freshman Ethan Boring (Ligonier Valley) had a hit in his first college at-bat, a pinch-hit single against Bethany.
Softball
Gannon: Junior pitcher Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe) earned her first collegiate win, going seven innings with seven strikeouts in an 8-2 win over Mercyhurst.
Penn State: Junior Bailey Parshall (Belle Vernon) struck out seven in a complete-game effort, but the Nittany Lions lost, 2-1, to Illinois to fall to 0-11 on the season.
Robert Morris: Freshman Jane Garver (Ligonier Valley) earned her first win, working seven innings and allowing six hits as the Colonials defeated Detroit-Mercy, 5-3. She struck out five.
Wrestling
Gannon: Senior Jake Dunlop (Belle Vernon) finished eighth at the NCAA Division II Championships at 125 pounds. He helped the team to a ninth-place finish.
Football
Lehigh: Freshman Christian Jablonski (Ligonier Valley) started in his first collegiate game as the Mountain Hawks lost to Holy Cross, 20-3. Jablonski, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive lineman, had a pair of tackles.
Men’s golf
West Virginia: Senior Mark Goetz (Greensburg/The Kiski School) finished tied for 58th at the George Hannon Intercollegiate at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas at 9-over-par 222. He carded rounds of 78, 72 and 72
Men’s lacrosse
Seton Hill: Junior faceoff specialist Logan Gray was tabbed Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week. Gray won all 22 of his faceoffs this season in the Griffins’ 34-4 victory over Davis & Elkins. He leads Seton Hill with 17 ground balls and is 60 for 77 on faceoffs.
Seton Hill (3-0) is ranked No. 3 in the latest USILA Division II Coaches Poll.
Additionally, Gray and grad student teammate Logan Maloni made the USILA Division II Team of the Week. Maloni made it for the second straight week after he scored four goals and added four assists in the Davin & Elkins win.
Women’s lacrosse
Saint Vincent: Freshman goalie Kyra Lipetzky was named PAC Defensive Player of the Week. She made 11 saves in a 10-8 win in the Bearcats’ season opener against Westminster.
Women’s tennis
Pitt-Greensburg: Freshman Emily Ruhlman was named the AMCC Player of the Week. Against Mt. Aloysius, she won in singles and doubles to help the Bobcats move to 2-0.
