Westmoreland campus clippings: Podkul has 2 big games for Grove City women's basketball

Grove City junior forward Allison Podkul (Hempfield) had a career-high six assists and five steals to go with six points as Grove City (16-2, 8-2) handed Saint Vincent (13-6, 9-1) its first PAC loss of the season 68-65.

Junior Madison Kollar (Latrobe) led Saint Vincent with 16 points, and junior Jenna Lafko added 14.

Kollar also netted 18 in an 82-37 win over Thiel.

Podkul has started all 19 games for the Wolverines. She is averaging 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 23.9 minutes.

Wrestling

Bucknell: Sophomore Zach Hartman (Belle Vernon), ranked No. 18 at 165 pounds, upset No. 11 Kennedy Monday, but the Bison had a five-match winning streak halted in a 25-9 loss to North Carolina.

Pitt: Redshirt sophomore Micky Phillippi (Derry) scored a 4-0 decision at 133 pounds as the No. 10 Panthers lost to No. 4 N.C. State, 21-12.

Men’s basketball

Shippensburg: Junior guard Jake Biss (Latrobe) had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists for the 24th-ranked Raiders (18-3, 14-1) in a 66-63 loss to East Stroudsburg. Shippensburg had a 10-game winning streak end but clinched a PSAC playoff spot.

Biss had 22 points, including four 3-pointers, plus six assists and five rebounds in an 80-68 win over Shepherd.

Men’s swimming

Penn State Behrend: Junior Cole Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant) swam a leg of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 1 minute, 29.15 seconds in a 164-98 win over Saint Vincent.

Women’s swimming

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Kimber Randolph (Hempfield) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:31.1 and helped the 400 freestyle relay to victory (4:10.92) at Grove City’s Pre-PAC Tune Up.

Women’s indoor track and field

IUP: Sophomore Rachel Horrell (Ligonier Valley) took eighth in the triple jump (11.15 meters) at the YSU National Mid-Major Invitational.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: Senior goalkeeper Max Eismann was named a Preseason All American by the USILA. Eismann, the reigning G-MAC Goalkeeper of the Year, went 12-5 last season with a 9.76 goals-against average and 178 saves. Seton Hill was ranked seventh in the USILA Division II Coaches Preseason Poll and second in the G-MAC poll.
