Sydney Ball sat on a three-shot lead for the better part of six months.
The Saint Vincent sophomore, however, still closed the deal.
Ball this weekend was named MVP at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s golf championships after winning the title by nine shots at Chestnut RidgeResort in Blairsville. The Pittsford, N.Y., native shot 82 in the final round.
The first two rounds were played during the fall season, on Oct. 1-2, at Squaw Creek Gol Club in Vienna, Ohio.
Ball finished with a 54-hole total of 259 to hold off Alexandra Jakubow of Washington & Jefferson.
Saint Vincent finished third in the team standings.
Baseball
Seton Hill: Sophomore George Coyle was named PSAC West Pitcher of the Week after he helped the Griffins to a doubleheader sweep at Mercyhurst. He pitched a four-hitter and struck out six in a 4-1 win.
Softball
Robert Morris: Freshman Dana Vatakis (Monessen) was named Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week and the conference rookie of the week for the second time this season. She made four appearances last week, earning two wins and allowing two earned runs across 16 innings.
Men’s lacrosse
Seton Hill: Junior Ryan Manbeck had four goals and one assist, junior Logan Maloni had a hat trick and two assists and junior Max Eismann made 10 saves for the Griffins in an 18-11 win over Lake Erie. The Griffins moved to No. 10 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Coaches Poll.
Women’s lacrose
Saint Vincent: Senior attacker Courtney Kloos (Latrobe) was named PAC Offensive Player of the Week. She combined for 15 points across a pair of wins. She had three goals and two assists against Bethany and added four goals anad six assists against Waynesburg.
Men’s track & field
Navy: Freshman Hayden Fox (Hempfield) garnered Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after placing second in the javelin at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Series Meet. His season-best throw of 215 feet, 2 inches tied teammate Skyler Mason, but Fox took second on throw sequence.
Women’s track & field
Saint Vincent: Freshman Sydney Green (Latrobe) won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 22.91 seconds at the Westminster Invitational. The win earned her PAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Women’s bowling
Saint Vincent: Sophomore Dani Koehler was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, and freshman teammate Jessica Guesman was picked as the conference’s newcomer of the year.
Koehler was among the AMCC’s top statistical leaders. She averaged 191.2, 198.8 Baker scoring, 43.8 strike percentage and Baker 10th frame average (19.3). Koehler was No. 1 in the AMCC in the Player Composite Performance Index.
Guesman was sixth in the conference in strike percentage (37.1) and fifth in single-pin spare percentage (82.1). She averaged 172.7.
This is the Bearcats’ second season as a program. They were 11-3 in the AMCC and took third in the conference. Their 73.5 win-percentage (39-14) was the second-best in the NCAA, including all divisions.
