Westmoreland campus clippings: Seton Hill coach Katarski reaches milestone
Seven seasons into his tenure at Seton Hill, women’s basketball coach Mark Katarski has reached a milestone.
Katarski’s teams often come close to scoring 100 points. In Sunday’s 85-78 win over Frostburg State, the Griffins gave him 100 career victories.
Katarski, who began guiding the Griffins in 2013-14, when they joined the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, is 100-80. He is seeking his seventh consecutive trip to the PSAC Tournament.
Katarski also held coaching positions at Niagara, as an assistant, and was the head coach at Chatham.
Seton Hill (6-0) is off to its best start under his leadership.
In Sunday’s win, Cheyenne Trest scored 20 points (13 of 16 free throws), ande Katie Nolan (17 points), Lexi Civittolo (16) and Tiana Stewart (13) also scored in double digits. Seton Hill made 25 of 36 free throws.
Seton Hill, which relies on an uptempo offense supported by rapid-fire 3-point shooting, averages 85.2 points and shoots 35 3s.
Seton Hill is ranked No. 7 in the latest D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll.
Point Park: Junior guard Michelle Burns (Hempfield) scored a season-high 28 points to power the Pioneers (5-4) past Bryant & Stratton, 78-72, in Rochester, N.Y. She had 20 points in the first half and finished with six 3-pointers and five assists.

Grove City: Junior guard Justice Rice (Monessen) was named PAC Player of the Week after he had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 75-61 victory at Houghton. The third-year starter is averaging 11.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
Holy Cross: Junior guard Austin Butler (Latrobe) had 17 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Crusaders (1-7) to their first win of the season, 81-67 over Mercer.

Monmouth: Junior defensive lineman Kurt Aumer (Mt. Pleasant) had three tackles and his first sack of the year as Monmouth defeated Holy Cross, 44-27, in the first round of the FCS playoffs. Aumer had a season-high six stops in Week 9 against Kennesaw State. He has 27 tackles this season.

Iowa: Junior Spencer Lee (Franklin Regional) scored a 16-0 technical fall at 125 pounds, and senior Michael Kemerer (Franklin Regional) won by pin in 5 minutes, 47 seconds as top-ranked Iowa rolled past Wisconsin, 32-3.
Ohio State: Senior Luke Pletcher (Latrobe) is 9-0 this season with four major decisions and two falls. He is ranked No. 1 in the country at 141 pounds.

Women’s soccer
Pitt-Greensburg: A trio of players from the program’s most successful team received additional postseason accolades.
Senior defender Tori Conroy and freshman forward Ashley Lucas were named to the United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, and sophomore midfielder Tiffany Michalek made the third team.
Conroy anchored a defense that allowed 12 goals and posted 15 shutouts, and Lucas, the AMCC player and newcomer of the year, led the conference in goals (23), assists (11) and points (57).
Michalek had 18 goals and 44 points for UPG, which finished 19-1-1, clinched AMCC regular season and playoff titles, and made the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time.
Men’s soccer
Penn State Behrend: Senior Andrew Mastovich (Franklin Regional) was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
Mastovich was the AMCC Defensive Preseason Player of the Year and made the All-AMCC first team. He anchored a defense that yielded a 0.85 goals-against average in 21 games. He also netted three goals for six points and helped the Lions record 10 shutouts.
