Westmoreland campus clippings: Seton Hill, St. Vincent football start season hot
It’s mid-September and neither Seton Hill nor Saint Vincent has lost a football game.
Seton Hill looks like it is going to grind its way to victories this season, and that will do just fine for a program looking to turn a corner.
The Griffins improved to 2-0 with a 13-7 win over Bloomsburg. They held a significant edge in rushing yards, 195-46, with junior running back Jaiquawn McGriff scoring the team’s only touchdown on a 4-yard run in the second quarter.
Sophomore Luke Hauger (Mt. Pleasant) kicked two more field goals, from 19 and 25 yards, while senior linebacker Narrio Wilks had a game-high 14 tackles. The Griffins had 13 tackles for loss, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Grad student Logan Wiland ran for 113 yards.
The Griffins haven’t started 2-0 since 2016.
As for Saint Vincent, junior quarterback Brady Walker completed 18-of-30 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns — two to grad student wideout Keith Kalp (Mt. Pleasant), who had five catches for 143 yards — as the Bearcats opened the season with a 34-14 win over Bluffton.
