Westmoreland campus clippings: Seton Hill's Stevenson earns berth in NCAA shot put
Seton Hill senior Lexi Stevenson will make a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II track and field championships Thursday through Saturday at Javalina Stadium at at Texas A&M Kingsville.
Stevenson will compete in the shot put after qualifying with a throw of 14.79 meters at the PSAC championships. She finished 13th in the event last year, one spot from All-America honors, with a top mark of 14.09.
Baseball
Bethany: Junior outfielder Noah Rady (Norwin) was named to the All-PAC second team. Rady batted .321, scored 30 runs and drove in 23 for the Bison (27-16).
Pitt-Greensburg: Long-ball hitter Chris Common (Penn-Trafford) capped his senior season with All-AMCC first-team recognition. The outfielder batted .356 with a career-high 35 runs, but his prowess was hitting home runs. His eight homers led the Bobcats (14-21) and allowed him to add to his career record of 30. He also drove in 40 runs this season.
Sophomore outfielder Ben Green and freshman pitcher Mickey Sullivan were named all-conference second team. Green hit .361 with five homers, 33 runs and 31 RBIs, and Sullivan went 3-3 with 17 strikeouts in 26 innings.
Saint Vincent: Senior first baseman Bobby Finn was named All-PAC first team after leading the Bearcats (20-19) in several offensive categories. He batted .365 with nine doubles, 12 homers and 43 RBIs. The home run total not only led the PAC but also set a SVC single-season record. His 22 homers also are a program mark.
Senior outfielder Matt Morrone, junior pitcher Jimmy Malone and freshman Casey Jones made the PAC second team. Morrone had eight doubles, 13 steals and 28 RBIs. Malone was 6-3 with a 3.53 ERA, and Jones went 8-1 and struck out 73 in 62 innings.
Seton Hill: Redshirt senior Andrew Chuba was named to the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association Association All-Atlantic Region first team. A designated hitter, Chuba, also a PSAC West first-teamer, batted a team-best .373 and led the Griffins in stolen bases with 19. He also had nine doubles, seven homers, 42 runs and 33 RBIs.
Chuba will be considered for All-America accolades.
Softball
Saint Vincent: Freshman outfielder Kelsey Tobin (Hempfield) was named to the NCAA Greencastle Regional All-Tournament team. Tobin went 2 for 3 with a double and a run in a 4-1 loss to DePauw in the first round of the NCAA Division III Regional in Greencastle, Ind. For the season, Tobin hit .356 and led the Bearcats (29-16) in runs with 39. She tied for the team lead with 13 doubles and drove in 24.
Women’s lacrosse
Seton Hill: Senior midfielder Keagan Pontious was selected to the Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association first team, and teammates, junior Emma Haley and sophomore Jaclyn Frank, made the second team.
Pontious scored 58 goals, handed out 14 assists and had 85 draw controls. Haley led the PSAC in draw controls with 157 and led the team with 30 caused turnovers to go with 37 goals and 48 assists for a league-best 85 points.
Pontious and Haley were All-PSAC first team picks.
Men’s tennis
Saint Vincent: Junior Jon Oskin and freshman Mauricio Sanchez were named to the All-PAC first team. Oskin had an 8-7 record at No. 1 singles, and Sanchez was 13-2 at No. 2 singles.
Sanchez and senior Zach Fox made the first team at No. 2 doubles after finishing 13-2 (7-0 PAC), and freshman Josh Boland and senior Alex DeLuca (Latrobe) were second-team picks. Boland was 11-1 at No. 6 singles and DeLuca 12-2 at No. 5 singles.
