Westmoreland campus clippings: Seton Hill's Wolf leads pack at PSAC cross country championships
The pack was chasing a Wolf at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross country championships at Kutztown.
At least that was the case down the stretch.
Seton Hill senior Sydney Wolf became the first woman in school history to win a PSAC final as her final 300-meter push gave her the title. The Griffins finished second in the team standings, its top mark at the 6K race.
Wolf crossed the finish line in 22 minutes, 23.8 seconds.
Cal U: Sophomore Malia Anderson (Greensburg Salem) picked up All-PSAC second-team honors in her conference finals debut. Anderson, a Georgetown transfer, finished 26th in 24:09.9.
Men’s cross country
Cal (Pa.): Junior Mason Jobe (Greensburg Salem) took 34th at the PSAC Championships in 27:22.
Women’s soccer
Duquesne: Junior Hannah Nguyen (Penn-Trafford) scored her fourth goal of the season, but Duquesne dropped its fifth straight game, 2-1, against St. Bonaventure. Nguyen also has four assists and has started all 16 games for the Dukes (4-10-2, 2-7-1).
Pitt-Greensburg: The Bobcats ran their winning streak to five with an 11-0 victory over Pitt-Bradford.
Junior Ashley Lucas, freshman Emily Bonelli and senior Tiffany Michalek each scored three goals to lead the Bobcats, who moved to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in section.
Slippery Rock: Senior defenders Katy Ericson (Norwin) and Emily Arnold (Norwin) have been key contributors to six shutouts this season for the Rock (10-3-2, 9-3-1).
Ericson, who has two assists, has started all 15 games. Arnold, with one assist, has played in 14 games and has been in the starting lineup 11 times.
Seton Hill: The Griffins snapped a seven-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over Clarion in double overtime. Sophomore Natalie Maver scored for the Griffins in the 108th minute on an assist from freshman Mikayla Moyer.
Junior Grace Kenyon played the entire match and have four saves for Seton Hill (4-8-1, 3-8-1).
Westminster: Freshman Brooke Horvath (Franklin Regional) scored her 11th goal of the season as the Titans (14-1, 8-0 PAC) blanked Saint Vincent, 3-0, for their eighth consecutive shutout.
In the previous game, a 2-0 win over Chatham, Horvath found the net to join freshman teammate Mackenzie Powell (Penn-Trafford) in the scoring column.
Men’s soccer
Penn State Behrend: Senior defender Cameron Eckberg (Norwin) leads the Lions (12-3, 7-0 AMCC) in goals (eight) and points (18), while freshman midfielder Blake Cooper (Franklin Regional) has seven goals and three assists, and junior defender Justin LeDonne (Franklin Regional) has three goals.
Men’s golf
Towson: Freshman Jeff Mankins (Greensburg Salem) carded rounds of 75, 77 and 75 to finish 28th at the Towson Fall Invitational, helping Towson edge Howard by one stroke. It was the first Division I action for Mankins, an IUP transfer.
Women’s volleyball
Westminster: Senior Sam Kelly (Penn-Trafford) handed out a match-best 23 assists and three aces as the Titans topped Franciscan, 3-0, in PAC play.
Men’s swimming
Allegheny: Sophomore Payne Rizzer (Franklin Regional) swam a leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay that finished in 1:29.81 in a 145-135 loss to Grove City.
Women’s swimming
Washington & Jefferson: Senior Kimber Randolph (Hempfield) won two events as the Presidents dominated Bethany, 183-21. She won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:50.65 and the 400 individual medley in 5:33.83. Sophomore Amanda Graves (Penn-Trafford), meanwhile, won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:08.94, and the 100 freestyle in 57.31. She also contributed to a win in the 200-yard medley relay’s win in 1:59.49.
Westminster: Junior Baylee Horvath (Franklin Regional) was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.62 in a 182-103 dual-meet victory against Penn State Behrend.
Horvath also won the 50 freestyle (25.73 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (57.50).
