Former Southmoreland standout Brandon Stone (right) is transferring to Robert Morris.

In a matter of four days, Brandon Stone set his college basketball career on a new course.

Last Saturday, he left the La Salle campus. On Monday, he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

By Tuesday, he had a new suitor: Robert Morris.

It happened that quickly for the former Southmoreland star, who was seeing limited minutes as a sophomore at La Salle.

“I just didn’t think it was a good fit for me anymore,” the 6-foot-11, 205-pound Stone said of La Salle. “I wasn’t happy and wanted to play closer to home, so my family could see me play more often.”

He will move to campus for the second semester and will have to sit out the rest of this season. He will have three more years of eligibility.

Robert Morris initially recruited Stone and was the fourth of 20-plus Division I offers.

“They reached out to me as soon as I entered the transfer portal,” Stone said. “I got on the phone with coach (Andy) Toole. After talking with him, I knew it was a great opportunity and a good fit for me, so it made it an easy decision for me.”

Stone, who played at The Christ School (N.C.) after leaving Southmoreland, averaged 1.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in four games this season.

“I’m just excited to join the program at RMU, and I’m ready to get to work,” Stone said.

Women’s basketball

Charlotte: Sophomore guard Cali Konek (Franklin Regional) has played in five games for the 49ers (1-4) and is averaging 2.8 points across 42 minutes. She had eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in a loss at North Carolina.

She played 21 minutes off the bench at Appalachian State.

Saint Joseph’s: Grad transfer Alayna Gribble (Norwin) scored 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting and made all five of her 3-point attempts in an 80-52 win over Monmouth. It was the second straight start for the former Pitt player.

Football

Westminster: Three former Westmoreland County football players were named to the Westminster All-Decade team. Running back Dominique McKinley (Greensburg Salem) and defensive end Bobby Noble (Greensburg Central Catholic) were named to the first team, and offensive lineman Cam Mika (Kiski Area) to the second team.

McKinley rushed for 3,367 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry in his four-year career.

Noble, a first-team defensive pick, recorded 13 sacks and 2112 tackles for loss in two seasons, and Mika was an offensive lineman who helped lead the Titans to the best scoring offense in the PAC with a program-record 37.5 points per game in 2019.

Men’s golf

West Virginia: Redshirt junior Mark Goetz (Greensburg/Kiski School) posted three sub-par rounds and finished tied for 41st at the South Beach International Amateur, one of the top amateur events in the country. Goetz finished at even-par 283 with rounds of 69, 67, 77 and 70. The event was played over two courses, Miami Beach Golf Club and Normandy Shores Golf Club.
