Westmoreland campus clippings: UPG women's soccer punches ticket to NCAAs
Still undefeated and wanting more, the Pitt-Greensburg women’s soccer team won its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Penn State Behrend before 247 at Westmoreland County Community College.
The victory secured the Bobcats’ (19-0-1) first spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins next weekend. UPG will open at Chicago (12-2-3).
Junior Allie Grimm, junior Erika Caldro and freshman Ashley Lucas scored for top-seeded UPG, which held off a late comeback from Behrend (10-7-2), the No. 2 seed. Freshman Alexsia Barlamas and sophomore Tiffany Michalek had assists for UPG. Lucas scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-1 with 49 minutes, 23 seconds remaining. She joined Michalek and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Yoder on the all-tournament team.
Caldro and senior Tori Conroy were named AMCC Players of the Week for UPG.
Conroy helped UPG post its 15th shutout of the season.
In addition, the team was lauded with postseason honors. Lucas was named AMCC Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Yoder is the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year, and Chuck Wigle the AMCC Coach of the Year.
Conroy, Michalek and freshman Alexsia Barlamas made the All-AMCC First Team.

Valparaiso: Freshman Kiley Dugan (Penn-Trafford) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshmen Team. Dugan had a goal and an assist in 18 matches.

Men’s soccer
Penn State Behrend: Senior defender Andrew Mastovich (Franklin Regional) was named AMCC Defensive Player of the Year. The Lions’ center back helped lead the team to nine shutouts, and they allowed just 12 goals.
Mastovich also made the AMCC all-tournament team. Behrend (19-1) held off Medaille, 1-0, in the conference championship to earn a berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament. It was the Lions’ 10th AMCC title.
Mastovich has three goals this season.
Junior midfielder Christian Eckberg (Norwin) was named to the All-AMCC second team.

Wrestling
Arizona State: Redshirt senior Josh Shields (Franklin Regional) won his 100th career match with a major decision over Emi Soehnlen of Purdue, 12-2.
Pitt: Redshirt sophomore Micky Phillippi (Derry) won his match at 133 pounds as No. 15 Pitt opened with a 28-6 win over Campbell. Phillippi, who defeated No. 12 Noah Gonser, 6-2, is ranked No. 4 in the country in his weight division.
Pitt-Johnstown: Junior and top-ranked Chris Eddins (Greensburg Salem) won by technical fall at 149 pounds, and second-ranked Devin Austin (Penn-Trafford), a redshirt junior, scored a major decision as No. 1 UPJ defeated Ithaca, 25-12, in the East Coast Duals.
Eddins was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week after he went 3-0 at the Northeast Duals. He defeated No. 2 James Pleski (St. Cloud) and Arizona State’s Josh Maruca (Franklin Regional).
Seton Hill: Freshman Brandon Matthews took first place at 174 pounds, finishing 4-0 at the Mount Union Invitational. Senior Alan Diltz, redshirt sophomore Austin Shaw (Greensburg Salem) and redshirt junior Jake Beistel (Southmoreland) finished second, at 125, 149 and 285, respectively.
The Griffins took second in the team standings.
Shippensburg: Senior heavyweight Derek Berberick (Greensburg Salem), a national tournament qualifier last season, opened the season with a win at the Clarion Open. He is ranked No. 5 in the country by Intermat in Division II.
Virginia: Freshman Nick Coy (Penn-Trafford) placed second at 141 pounds, and sophomore Robert Patrick (Ligonier Valley) was fourth at 174 at the Southeast Open.

Women’s volleyball
Saint Vincent: Senior middle hitter Sarah Wozniak was named to the All-PAC first team. Freshman setter Carly Augustine (Latrobe) and junior middle hitter Madison Reaping were second-team selections.
Seton Hill: The Griffins (16-9) defeated Clarion, 3-0, to clinch a spot in the PSAC Tournament. Senior Jillian Livorse had a match-best 13 kills, and senior Taylor Sabol (Norwin) provided 41 assists.
Livorse was named the PSAC Southwest Athlete of the Week.
Junior Viktoria Farian topped 1,000 kills and digs for her career.
Westminster: Sophomore Samantha Kelly (Penn-Trafford) finished with 19 assists and 18 digs as top-seeded Westminster posted a 3-1 victory over Geneva to win the PAC title.
The Titans (26-6) also have received significant contributions from junior setter Haley Moore (Greensburg Central Catholic) and senior middle blocker Haley Famerie (Greensburg Central Catholic).
The team will play in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Women’s swimming
Cal (Pa.): Senior Karley Owens (Latrobe) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 17.91 seconds in a tri-meet against Penn State Altoona and Juniata. She won by nearly 4 seconds.
Teammate Rylee Jackson (Latrobe), a sophomore, swam a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:10.65).
