Seton Hill redshirt junior Ian Korn went 9-1 with a 1.34 ERA this season.

Seton Hill is known for having one of the more efficient pitching staffs in NCAA Division II baseball.

Some of the better arms each spring take “the Hill.”

The Griffins this season can say they have the best pitcher of them all.

Redshirt junior Ian Korn received significant recognition last week when he was named the National Baseball Writers Association Division II Pitcher of the Year.

He is the first Seton Hill player to win the NCBWA national pitcher of the year.

Korn, a right-hander who helped the Griffins (40-18) reach the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional for the third straight year, also was named an NCBWA All-American, the first in the program to achieve that honor since Nick Sell in 2015.

The NCBWA and D2CCA Atlantic Region pitcher of the year and PSAC West Pitcher of the Year, Korn was 11-1 with an NCAA Division II-low 1.51 ERA in 13 starts going into the Super Regional. He had 76 strikeouts in 77 1/3 innings.

Griffins grad pitcher Jon McCullough and sophomore shortstop Owen Henne also made the D2CCA all-region first team.

McCullough was 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 80 innings. Henne had a team-leading .368 average and 52 RBIs.

Mercyhurst: Seniors Eric Chorba (Norwin) and Jake Bazala (Norwin) joined one another on the All-Northeast Conference second team.

An outfielder, Chorba led the team with a .321 batting average and 62 hits, 16 for extra bases.

He also hit six home runs, which were second on the team behind senior Jayden Walker (Norwin).

Bazala, the Lakers’ No. 2 pitcher, was 7-4 with 85 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings. He went at least seven innings in his last five starts.

Women’s track and field

Michigan: Sophomore Liz Tapper (Hempfield) finished second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 17.65 meters at the Big Ten Championships to qualify for the NCAA East first round this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: Senior attacker Braedan Lockyer and junior midfielder Carter Green (Penn-Trafford) were named to the USILA All-American first team, whereas senior defender Charlie Hudson and senior face-off man Mark Strunk made the second team.

Green, senior defender Alex Callahan and junior Will Cody were tabbed All-Americans.

Hudson, Lockyer, Green, and and Strunk also made the USILA All-North Region first team.

Women’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: Grad student Skylar Orlowski was named to the All-IWLCA first team, and junior attacker Mila Udovicic made the third team.
