Westmoreland softball players leading college teams in home runs
Westmoreland County softball players have shown a propensity for hitting the long ball this college softball season.
A quartet of local players are leading their respective teams in home runs — at the Division I, II and III levels.
Penn State freshman outfielder Chelsea Bisi (Derry) blasted her team-leading ninth home run of the season in a 7-4 win over Purdue this weekend. Bisi is hitting .356 and leads Penn State (19-20, 3-6) in RBIs with 24.
Penn freshman Emma Nedley (Penn-Trafford) hit her fifth home run of the season, adding to her team lead, as Ivy League leader Penn (17-11, 8-4) topped Cornell, 8-0. She went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Nedley went 4 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs in a 14-0 win over Cornell. She also leads the team in average (.385) and runs (20) and RBIs (20). She was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Slippery Rock redshirt freshman Adeline Nicholson (Southmoreland) is hitting .273 with a team-leading four home runs. She also has six doubles and is tied for team lead in RBIs with 17.
And at Mt. Aloysius, sophomore catcher/first baseman Lydia DeFazio (Penn-Trafford) leads the first-place Mounties (20-5, 7-1) in batting average (.522), hits (36), home runs (7) and RBIs (33).
Her average, home runs and RBIs lead the AMCC.
