Wexford’s Gene Walter birdied the first playoff hole and won his second-consecutive Tri-State Section PGA event on Monday, this time at the Galaxy Golf Open at Connoquenessing Country Club in Ellwood City.

He won the Golf Max Head Pro Championship on June 3.

Walter edged Allegheny Country Club pro John Aber. Both finished at 2-under par 69. The playoff hole was the ninth hole.

Kevin Shields and Gordon Vietmeier, both of Pittsburgh, tied for third with a 1-under 70, while Shawn McCall of Ambridge and Devin Gee of Oakmont Country Club tied for fifth.

Walter heads into the next week’s Tri-State PGA Open at Williams Golf and Country Club in Weirton, W.Va., on a hot streak.

He said the time off during the coronavirus pandemic helped his golf game.

Jason Martin is the returning champion. He won at Chartiers Country Club in 2019.
