The Pittsburgh Penguins’ Jake Guentzel skates off the ice hurt after crashing into the boards during their game against the Ottawa Senators at PPG Paints Arena on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019.

Ok, now the hockey gods are just messing with us, right?

Aren’t the Penguins out of guys to get injured? As soon as hope started to build for a return of Sidney Crosby, now Jake Guentzel might be out for a while.

At least we are bracing ourselves for that news after the All-Star winger violently crashed into the boards while scoring a goal Monday during a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Pens Radio Network host Brian Metzer joins me to discuss the latest injury hex to befall the team.

We also talk about when Crosby may return and who may wind up on his line if Guentzel is on the shelf for a stretch.

There’s a ripple effect. Especially if Bryan Rust winds up on Crosby’s line. That will really hamper Evgeni Malkin, who has been playing inspired lately.

Two other recent standouts continued to shine Monday — defenseman John Marino and goalie Tristan Jarry. Brian and I dive into their latest exploits.

We also examine Patric Hornqvist’s return to the score sheet, Dominik Simon’s role of late and why it was “Ramones Time” while we were taping.

Listen: Tim Benz and Brian Metzer discuss the Penguins' latest injured player Jake Guentzel, as well as Sidney Crosby’s possible return
