Wheeling Nailers captain Justin Addamo scores twice for France

A look at how players with connections to the Pittsburgh Penguins have done in the ongoing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship Tournament:

After being added to France’s roster on Monday, Wheeling Nailers forward Justin Addamo scored two goals in a 4-2 win against Poland in a preliminary round game at Ostravar Arena in Vítkovice, Czechia on Tuesday.

A Robert Morris alumnus who serves as the Nailers’ captain, Addamo opened the contest as France’s fourth-line center. Addamo logged 13:48 of ice time on 23 shifts and was 4 for 7 (36.3%) on faceoffs, had three shots as well as two penalty minutes.

France’s next game is against the United States on Thursday, 2:20 p.m. (EDT).


Penguins forward Michael Bunting recorded an assist for Canada in a 7-6 overtime win against Austria at the O2 Arena in Prague.

Skating on the left wing of Canada’s fourth line, Bunting logged 16:43 of ice time on 21 shifts and five shots.

Penguins defensive prospect Thimo Nickl made his debut in the tournament for Austria and recorded an assist.

Deployed on Austria’s top pairing, Nickl logged 15:20 of ice time on 22 shifts.

Canada’s next game is against Norway on Thursday, 2:20 p.m. Austria will face Finland on Thursday, 10:20 a.m.


Penguins forward prospect Raivis Ansons was held without a point in Latvia’s 2-0 win against Kazakhstan at Ostravar Arena.

Serving as an extra forward for Latvia in an irregular lineup of 13 forwards and five defensemen, Ansons clocked 4:17 of ice time on eight shifts.

Latvia’s next game is against Germany on Wednesday, 10:20 a.m.
