It’s our weekly “Breakfast With Benz” podcast wrapping up Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s press conference. TribLive Steelers beat writer Joe Rutter hops on with me this week.
We pick apart the huge game looming against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. And there’s a lot of meat on the bone.
Almost all of it is about defense.
The Steelers lead the NFL in sacks and takeaways. The Bills defense is in the top three in yards per game, passing yards per game and points per game.
So where is each unit vulnerable? Well, the Bills are only 14th in the league when it comes to stopping the run at 105.3 rushing yards per game. So maybe Tomlin’s troops can find some fortune on the ground. In order to do that, though, James Conner may need to return healthy. Joe and I discuss that possibility.
And we try to figure out if this is really the week JuJu Smith-Schuster can get on the field.
When Buffalo is on offense, wide receiver John Brown has 64 catches and 908 yards, both career highs. He has also scored five touchdowns.
Devin Singletary is averaging 5.6 yards per carry and leads the team with 642 yards. He’s a legitimate threat. As is the running ability of Josh Allen at quarterback. We examine how the Steelers may be better prepared to deal with his legs than some other teams he may have faced.
All that plus questions about the Steelers’ tight end play, the AFC playoff picture and the latest filming controversy surrounding the Patriots.
