The Washington Wild Things added a local pair to their roster Tuesday, announcing the signings of former Norwin and Pitt standout Connor Perry and Ben Vicini, a West Shamokin and Seton Hill product who just played in the NCAA Division II College World Series.
Perry, who most recently played in the minor leagues for the Low-A Lakeland Flying Tigers, spent the 2019 season with the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie League.
He hit .227 in 43 career games with two home runs, 16 RBIs, 20 stolen bases and 27 runs.
Perry, a 28th round pick of the Detroit Tigers in ‘19, orchestrated a summer wooden bat league at Green Tree Park last year after the covid-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues, giving out-of-work players somewhere to stay sharp.
Vicini was one of the top pitchers for Seton Hill this season. The Griffins (39-8) won the NCAA Atlantic Regional and went 1-2 in the World Series in Cary, N.C.
The right-hander finished 6-2 with a team-high 58 1/3 innings and 71 strikeouts against only 10 walks and a 4.63 ERA.
